Landmark products
The year 1994 saw the release of the CS-1, Russound’s first multisource-multizone system. The CS-1 allowed for source selection and volume adjustments through keypads in the individual zones, or through keypads on the face of the controller. Unlike current multiroom systems, the CS-1 relied upon external amplifiers for power.
As technology evolved, so did Russound’s products. In 1995 Russound launched the PR-4Z, a four-zone audio and video preamplifier-controller. The PR-4Z featured audio adjustments and source selection via keypads, as well as providing IR pass-through for source control via remote control. Like the CS-1, the PR-4Z required external amplification, provided by the new AP-48 and IA-48 multichannel amplifiers. These products introduced Russound as a company capable of delivering an advanced solution to multiroom distribution that included video sources.
1998 was a big year for Russound. It marked the birth of the CA series of controller-amplifiers. The CA4.4 and CA6.4 marked a generational step, as they combined internal amplification with the proven distribution and control technologies from Russound’s previous controllers. Through refinements and the addition of new technologies, accessories and source components, the CA series has continued to evolve into Russound’s current line of controller-amplifiers. Flagship products such as the CAV6.6 owe their lineage to the early CA series.
Another pivotal product for Russound was launched in 2001 with the introduction of A-BUS® to North America. Russound licensed the A-BUS technology, developed by LeisureTech Electronics, and began manufacturing and marketing the distribution hubs and amplified keypads. A-BUS allowed the company to offer an entry-level multiroom system that was cost effective and easy to install. Russound has continued to develop the A-BUS line to include advanced products featuring a rack mountable controller and keypads with more robust digital amplification.
